PHIL SWEENEY from “The Independent” calls Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan the best and largest tenor (the highest male singing voice) and recommend him over Luciano, Placido and Jose (most Popular Opera Voices of 90’s). Author goes on to describe his collaborations and innovative experiments which Though we know pretty well that “the best tenor” tag will never be enough to sum up the huge NFAK ( In each and every possible translation of this statement). Koi Bole Ram Ram (Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan for Universal Brotherhood & Tolerance) with english translations
The date was 31st December 1989, and at Ramgarhia Sabha Gurdwara(A Sikh Temple) Slough UK , a Musilm was singing “Koi bole Ram Ram (A Hindu God) “. For people present, there were no separate religions “Allah was Ram” & “Ram was the Guru”. By performing this song, NFAK proved that “music has no Religion” & “Religion could never bound NFAK”. This pious though by NFAK truly justifies the following tribute by a fan (‘Rishi R Jha’) .
Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, when he sings, the GEETA, the KORAN, the BIBLE,the Sri Guru Garanth Sahib Ji , all are turned into music…a harmony with the existence …the godliness of the Universe can be felt.
So what follows is the English subtitled video & “Lyrics & Translations” of song “Koi Bole Ram Ram”, and the complete performance of NFAK in Gurudwara ( I know you must have seen it). Lets believe in Each Others Religions, beliefs & Gods.. ..
Chhoti Si Umar by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, this time for Social Awareness (with English translations)
Child Marriage & similar social evils still remains prevalent in certain parts of India and many Asian countries, a social stigma that cannot be tolerated at all. I myself can never forget the haunting scenes from Bandit Queen where a 11-year old Phoolan Devi was married (or sold) to a 25 year old. The background score of this scene was a soulful and emotional track by NFAK which can force you to cry if you understand the lyrics. A young girl asking her father about “You have decided to marry your beloved daughter in such a small age! What was my fault to get this I cant understand?” and accepting her fate. So what we have today is the translation of this song by Bobby Sing ( from www.bobbytalkscinema.com ) , he understands and feels that this song might be the answer to the social & personal stigma , this song will help the girl-parents take right decision for their blossoming flower .. , So Do I..Read Along…
This is a humble message for all those young would-be parents who will be reaching this stage soon when they might find themselves in a dilemma. And may be at that time, the meaningful memories of watching this video may help you to take the right decision.
